How to avoid overselling when you sell on several channels
Overselling happens when two channels think they have the same unit. The fix is one source of stock and fast feedback: keep stock in one system (your ERP or main store), copy it to every other channel on each change, and bring every channel's sales back into that system, so each unit is discounted once and the new figure reaches everywhere.
What you need.
- Accounts on the channels you sell on.
- One SKU per product and variation, the same on every channel.
The setup.
Choose one source of stock
The system where stock is really managed: usually your ERP (such as Odoo) or your main store. Every other channel receives stock; nobody edits it there by hand.
Connect every channel
Connect the source and each marketplace or store to NexxoSync. Each platform connects to NexxoSync, never directly to the others.
Send stock from the source to each channel
Create one integration per channel with the Stock flow going out of the source, set to run on every change. Only products whose stock changed are written, per variation and per location.
Bring every sale back to the source
Turn on the Orders flow from each channel to the source. A sale on any channel discounts the unit there, and the new stock goes out to the rest.
Hold back a safety stock
Keep a few units out of the channels, per location or for the whole flow, so the last ones aren't sold on a channel you can't fulfill from.
Simulate, then watch the history
Simulate the Stock flow to see every change it would make without writing anything, then turn it on. Every run is recorded; failed jobs are retried and admins get an email if one keeps failing.
Tips from real setups.
- A marketplace can't be the source if you also sell elsewhere: Mercado Libre, eBay and Producteca don't accept orders from other channels, so sales made elsewhere couldn't discount their stock.
- Where a platform sends no notifications, stock runs on a schedule (every 15 minutes by default): give those channels a larger safety stock.
- Variations count separately: link each one by SKU, not just the parent product.
How to avoid overselling when you sell on several channels
Which platform should be the source of stock?
The one where stock is really managed: usually your ERP or main store, and one that can receive the orders of every other channel.
Can two systems updating each other create a loop?
No. NexxoSync recognizes the notifications its own writes cause and ignores them, so a change never bounces back and forth.
What if a platform's API is down?
The run is retried automatically. If it still fails, it lands in Failed jobs, admins get an email, and you can run it again once fixed.
